A Collection of Short Stories

Sometimes There Are No Words
There are some things you're not prepared for even with all the books and advice you can get to "prepare you" for what's to come. Landon is officially potty trained, which is awesome. Changing diapers gets old and we're thrilled to be at the next stage where Landon walking around in his Huggies Size 6 is a thing of the past...although, we weren't quite prepared for the future either. Now that he's a big boy and can pull down his pants, pull off his spidey undies and go potty like a big boy. He can also decide to not put his spidey undies back on and run around the house naked smacking himself until we can catch him and wrangle him into clothes again. Boys will be boys I suppose.

The Boy Who Cried Poo
We've decided that Landon is officially the boy who cried poo. We made the mistake of telling Landon that if he goes pee in the potty he can have 2 gummy bears. Wanting to make the #2 even more celebratory we told him he can have 3 gummy bears every time he goes poo. The boy catches on quickly and now says, "I want to go poop" at every bathroom excursion. We also made the mistake way-back-when that we'd bring the gummies into the bathroom and leave them on the sink (always keep your eye on the prize!) so they were readily available when said deed (and hand washing) was complete. So when he announces he needs to go poop, he asks for his 3 gummy bears and we all march into the bathroom. Once there, he plops on, goes pee and then says he's done. What happened to the ole #2? Nothing. He just wanted the 3 gummy bears. Yes, we are getting worked by our almost 3 year old. Now try repeating this scene 4 times a night. But at what point do you say, "You don't have to go poop. You just want gummy bears." If you're like us, you say it in response to his "I have to go poop" exclamation just as we're about to sit down for dinner time. At which point Landon responded with, "Fine. I'll go poop in my pants!" Guess we have no choice but to believe him...each and every time.

Be Still!
Sunday marked the official first day of day light savings time. For those who have never heard me complain about it before, let it be known...I hate daylight savings time! Really, there is NO NEED for it. Yes, way back when it was necessary for farmers and god knows what else...but there is no reason for it. Arizona survives just fine operating on one consistant time clock year round. If only CA would follow suit. One of the hundreds of reasons I hate DST is the fact that it's dark at 5:15 each night. Pitch. Black. This makes our evening walks with a toddler interesting. For one, he isn't able to get out to walk as much. He's two and a half and devoloping more of an imagination that consists of monsters and "bad guys". We've gotten creative and have a few glow sticks left over from Halloween. We told Landon they are his Buzz Lightyear lasers and they can help keep the monsters away. (Side note: Do you like how instead of telling Landon monsters aren't real, we play along and tell him ways he can fight the monsters? Is this a bad parenting move that we'll later pay for?)... Anyways, the lasers have made our evening walks a little more interesting. Especially when Landon walks backwards with his arm fully extended saying, "Stay away Monsters! Be still!" Then he'll turn to me and say, "I keep you safe Mommy." This is both hysterical and oh-so-sweet at the same time.

Speaking of Bad Guys...
Landon and I were driving past a McDonald's one afternoon and they had a ginormous blow up Ronald McDonald on the roof of the restaurant.
Mommy: Do you know who that guy is Landon?
Landon: He's a bad guy.
Mommy: (Inner Monologue: Yes!! I mean...Dustin is going to be so disapointed) You're right, he is a bad guy!

On a side note, did you all hear that San Francisco has passed a city law that forbids restaurants (and red haired bad guys!) from putting toys in kids meals unless they meet certain nutritional regulations? Some are pissed...I think it's great! I hope Landon is 10 before he's subjected to eating that kind of crap.

Sorry we don't have any pictures this week. Our internet at home is acting funny and we need to get it fixed. We will certainly have pictures to share after this weekend. Nana and Papa are in town and we will have all sorts of new stories and pictures to share. Check back soon!

  1. Love your short stories! Our lives are filled with hilarious little stories now that we have these crazy little people in them :-)
That's so funny about the "Bad guy". Fortunately for me my dislike of condiments paired with Fast food joints inability to get orders right has always steered me away from them. I have however found ways to get fat without processed food :-)
